One of my favorite things about living in Beach Haven West, New Jersey, is something that’s hard to fully appreciate until you’ve experienced it yourself: being able to walk out the back door, step onto the dock and head out on the boat.

For those of us who love being on the water, the lagoons aren’t simply part of the view. They’re part of everyday life.

It All Starts in the Lagoon

Beach Haven West is made up of waterfront neighborhoods connected by an extensive network of lagoons. On a summer day, you’ll see boats at the docks, neighbors outside and families getting ready for a day on the bay.

And boating isn’t the only way we enjoy the water. On any given summer day, you’ll see kayaks, paddleboards and other water toys along the docks—just another part of everyday lagoon life in Beach Haven West.

It’s one of the things I love most about living here.

There is something special about looking down the lagoon on a beautiful morning and knowing that your boat is right outside waiting for you.

From Your Backyard to the Bay

A boating day for us often starts right at home. Load up the fishing rods, coolers and whatever else we’re bringing for the day, untie the lines and we’re off.

As you make your way through the lagoons, you get a completely different view of Beach Haven West. From the water, you pass docks lined with boats, kayaks and water toys, along with the waterfront homes that make these neighborhoods so distinctive.

As you continue along, the scenery begins to change. The residential lagoons gradually give way to wider stretches of water, and before long, you’re leaving the protected waterways behind.

That transition is one of my favorite parts of the ride.

And Then the Water Opens Up

Once you reach the bay, it feels like an entirely different world.

Suddenly there’s open water ahead of you and so many possibilities for the day. Maybe we’re going fishing, taking a ride, heading toward Barnegat Inlet or simply spending a few hours enjoying the water.

This is also where the location of a Beach Haven West waterfront home can make a difference for boaters. Depending on where a home is located within the lagoon system, your route and travel time to open water can vary.

It’s something I always encourage waterfront buyers to think about—not just the house itself, but how they plan to use the water.

Where a Day on the Water Can Take You

One of our favorite boating destinations is the area around Barnegat Lighthouse.

Seeing Old Barney from the water never gets old. On a beautiful Jersey Shore day, the ride itself can be every bit as enjoyable as the destination.

Sometimes we’re just out for a boat ride. Other times, fishing is definitely part of the plan.

And on this particular trip, we even had some luck!

These are the kinds of days that remind me why I love the boating lifestyle here so much. You can leave your own backyard in Beach Haven West and end up spending the day fishing and enjoying the open water near one of the Jersey Shore’s most recognizable landmarks.

Then, at the end of the day, you get back on the boat and head home.

What Waterfront Buyers Should Consider

If you’re looking at waterfront homes in Beach Haven West and boating is important to you, there are a few things worth considering beyond the number of bedrooms and bathrooms.

The condition of the bulkhead and dock, lagoon location, water depth, the size and type of boat you own, bridge clearance along your route and access to the bay can all be important pieces of the puzzle.

Two beautiful waterfront homes may offer very different boating experiences depending on their locations.
